Vivo X200 Pro launched in SA- A high end camera wrapped in a smartphone

Vivo made quite the statement last night by unleashing their first flagship X series device to South Africa, the Vivo X200 Pro at Vodacom World in Midrand.

This wasn’t just another smartphone launch – It was a statement of intent, a declaration that Vivo isn’t here to play around -The number one smartphone brand in China has their target zeroed-in on the rest of the pack. The fact that this announcement comes just a day before the unveiling of Samsungs highly anticipated flagship launch is no coincidence either. Vivo is staking a claim in the premium segment and the X200 Pro is contending for the title.

First impressions of the X200 Pro, which is draped in sleek “Titanium Grey” or classic “Cosmos Black” colour-ways, with a humungous camera bump (no jokes- this thing is huge) gives the feeling of a high end camera that happens to be wrapped in the body of a smartphone. This is definitely a camera first and I must say it’s pretty darn impressive, boasting a triple rear camera setup that would make a professional photographer take notice.

Zeiss lenses, a 200MP telephoto sensor for those incredible zoom shots, a 50MP main sensor for capturing life in all its glory, and a 50MP ultra-wide to squeeze those panoramic vistas into a single frame. Vivo’s partnership with Zeiss is really starting to flex its muscles here, with actual image quality results some of the best we’ve seen on any flagship device. It’s no wonder this was rated the best flagship device of 2024 by Mrwhosetheboss.

But it’s not just about the cameras. Under the hood, the X200 Pro hums with the power of the latest MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processor, ready to handle anything you throw at it along with a whole lot of AI magic. And with a 6,000mAh battery juiced up by 90W fast charging, with a claimed 8.3 days standby time you can say goodbye to battery anxiety.

But, and this is a big but!  All of this amazingness  comes at a price. A cool R40,000 to be precise – That’s foldable phone territory!

But then again, this isn’t your average flagship smartphone launch. This is Vivo’s  statement piece in South Africa. A device that screams, “I appreciate the finer things in life” and Vivo is a brand that can deliver that.

Speaking to Geekhub on the sidelines of the launch, Jay Yang – GTM manager for Vivo South Africa explained that the X200 Pro will demonstrate Vivo’s technical prowess and premium brand to South Africans: “TheX200 pro will show South Africans who Vivo actually is and what kind of products we have” said Jay.

We hope to get our hands on the X200 Pro soon, put it through its paces and let you know if the hype is real. From what we’ve seen with a short hands-on last night, it certainly looks promising.

The Vivo X200 Pro is officially available on February 7th and is exclusive to Vodacom at R1,899pm x 24 or R1,399pm x 36.
