iPhone 17 Air Leak: The Thinnest iPhone Ever?

Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup is shaping up to be one of the most interesting refreshes in years—at least if the latest leaks are to be believed. And thanks to tech leaker “Sonny Dickson”, we now have our first real look at dummy models of all four upcoming iPhones. These physical mockups, typically used by case manufacturers to prepare accessories ahead of launch, give us a clear preview of what Apple might have in store.

The headline here? The iPhone 17 Air looks absurdly thin.

iPhone 17 Air: Apple’s Skinniest iPhone Yet

The iPhone 17 Air might just be Apple’s most radical design shift in years. The dummy model suggests a ridiculous 5.5mm thickness—a full step thinner than even the iPhone 6 (6.9mm). That’s dangerously close to “bendgate” territory, but Apple is clearly confident in its engineering.

Despite this drastic slim-down, the MagSafe ring is still present, shutting down earlier speculation that Apple might ditch it to save space. And the Action button—which replaced the Ring/Silent switch on last year’s Pro models—is now officially making its way across the entire iPhone 17 lineup.

A Camera Redesign That Feels… Different

Apple has taken a minimalist approach with the iPhone 17 Air’s single rear camera, housed in a pill-shaped module that spans the upper back. That’s a stark contrast to the dual-camera setup on the standard iPhone 17 and the triple-lens system on the Pro models.

Why a single camera? Apple seems to be positioning the iPhone 17 Air as a premium-feeling but more affordable alternative—bridging the gap between the base model and the higher-end Pros. This could be a strategic move to appeal to users who want a sleek, high-end design but don’t necessarily need multiple lenses.

Side-by-Side: The iPhone 17 Air vs. The Rest

Placing the iPhone 17 Air next to the other iPhone 17 models reveals just how radical its slim design really is.

    • The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro maintain more traditional thicknesses.
    • The Pro Max looks downright chunky in comparison, thanks to a larger battery and upgraded camera hardware.
    • The Pro models also feature an elongated camera bump—another noticeable design tweak that further sets them apart from previous generations.

    What’s Next?

While Apple hasn’t confirmed anything yet (because, of course, they won’t), the sheer consistency of leaks—from CAD renders to insider reports to these dummy models—makes this one feel pretty credible. If true, the iPhone 17 Air is shaping up to be Apple’s most dramatic design shift in years—bringing back the ultra-thin smartphone aesthetic while keeping modern essentials like MagSafe.

The official iPhone 17 launch is still expected in September 2025, so it won’t be long before we find out if these leaks are the real deal. Until then, expect more details to surface as we inch closer to launch day.
