Channing Tatum Stars in Roofman – A Strange and Stunning True Story

What if the man living in your favourite toy store wasn’t a night-shift employee but a fugitive hiding in plain sight? The trailer for Roofman, starring Channing Tatum, takes that wild premise and runs with it, right across the rooftop of your expectations. Based on the unbelievable true story of Jeffrey Manchester, Roofman isn’t just a quirky heist drama, it’s a surreal, oddly touching look at loneliness, love, and the strangest second chance anyone’s ever taken. With Derek Cianfrance at the helm and Kirsten Dunst in a quietly radiant supporting role, this trailer teases a story that’s as emotionally charged as it is unexpectedly whimsical.

Roofman comes from Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines director Derek Cianfrance and stars Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dunst, Ben Mendelsohn, Peter Dinklage, and more. The Roofman trailer unveils Channing Tatum as Jeffrey Manchester, portraying the real-life fugitive who famously eluded capture by secretly living inside a Toys “R” Us. The trailer lays the groundwork for Manchester’s story, his daring prison escape, the bizarre decision to take refuge in a toy store, and how his hidden life unfolds as he waits for the heat to die down.

The trailer opens in the stillness of a neon-lit toy store at night with Tatum roller‑skating down aisles, snacking on peanut M&M’s, and testing a kid’s mattress. It’s whimsical and almost nostalgic, but underneath lurks tension, betrayal, and the anxiety of being hunted.

    A voiceover reveals Jeffrey’s intimate self-reflection:

“I was never very good at life… Kind of like I was not good at hurting people.”
But the trailer quickly shows that things don’t stay simple for Manchester. He appears to fall into a romance with Kirsten Dunst’s Leigh Wainscott. Leigh is a store worker and a divorced mother Amid their blooming relationship blooms  warmth and hope. But he soon realises that her ties to law enforcement could put his entire plan, and freedom, at risk.

The contrast is striking, secret hideouts and romantic glances mixed with moments of genuine levity, like midnight bike rides down toy aisles. Then, a sudden shift. A surprise shower scene where Tatum’s nude escape sparks both suspense and a hint of comedic relief.

    Geek Verdict:

The Roofman trailer effectively teases a genre-crossing thriller. Part suspense driven crime story, part unconventional romance, and part emotional deep-dive into isolation and reinvention. Tatum’s performance is arresting, Dunst’s warmth softens the grit, and Cianfrance’s sensitive direction promises a distinctly human portrait of an unlikely fugitive.
