There are shows you watch and move on… and then there are shows you watch that you just can’t shake. Ted Lasso is one of those that lingers long after the season is done and dusted. It’s funny how things like the biscuits, the belief sign and the jokes get you feeling things you otherwise would have discarded long ago.
Season 1 showed up like that annoyingly cheerful person you just could not trust. That is, until you realised that they were actually sincere … and now you feel slightly judged for your own cynicism. Season 2 had a rather deep side to it, showing us that even the most cheerful people carry storms. And Season 3? That one wrapped things with a soft goodbye that felt complete. And just when you thought this was done, Variety has reported that the show will be back for Season 4. Yes. Back. Again. Like that ex who texts “hey” after you’ve finally healed. Because apparently, peace and closure are just suggestions in television.
Ted’s back… and he brought a plot twist
When I think about it, Season 3 ended in a way that felt, “hey, we don’t need more”, or was I just being delusional? So for me bringing it back now makes me wonder if it will be any good or if it should exist at all. That was until I saw the trailer. The newly released trailer confirms what I was definitely not expecting. You see, Ted isn’t just strolling back into AFC Richmond like nothing happened. This time, he’s stepping into coaching a women’s football team. Yeah that’s right, so it could be seen as either a bold evolution… or a shake up to see what survives.” Now you probably wondering…..could this really work?
Think about it, if there’s one thing Ted Lasso does well, it’s taking the same emotional DNA and throwing it into a completely different environment just to see who breaks first. And that’s usually us. Here there is no recreation of the old magic as we saw it. Here you can expect to see, a new team. And with every new team, there are new dynamics at play, which should be interesting. As for the belief system, that’s still there with the difference that it is being tested in unfamiliar territory. And that’s where Ted Lasso has always been strongest. It’s got nothing to do with winning or even football for that matter. It has everything to do with watching people find themselves when everything goes wayward.
Familiar heart, slightly different chaos
If you worried about the tone, the weird mix of humour, sincerity, and emotional sneak attacks that hit you when you least expect it, they’re all still there.
But there’s also an understanding that things can’t just go back to how they were. Growth doesn’t rewind itself just because a new season got greenlit.
And thank God for that… because nothing ruins a good show faster than pretending character development never happened.

So… do we trust this?
Ted Lasso is coming back this August, with weekly episodes. Watch Jason Sudeikis step back into those familiar shoes… just not on the same pitch.
Season 4 lands on 5 August 2026. Weekly episodes. A Season 4 where someone sat with the story a little longer and realised there was still something left unsaid. Which, if we’re being honest, is exactly how life works. So no, this isn’t about beating the previous seasons. It’s about showing up again… slightly older, slightly wiser… and still choosing to believe. Even if part of you is watching with your arms folded like, “don’t mess this up.”
